FAQ
Plan approximately 50 minutes for your personal consultation and examination. It will include a physical, orthopedic, neurological and biomechanical assessment. This initial visit will be used to establish a working diagnosis and determine the most appropriate treatment options. Unless our examination reveals otherwise, a treatment is provided on the first visit. A detailed report of findings will be provided on a subsequent visit. A patient gown will be provided to women and men can wear shorts. (Bring your own if you like).
Subsequent visits vary in length and depend on what is done. For example, a basic chiropractic adjustment may take only 10 minutes. Chiropractic plus an ART or dry needling treatment may take 30 to 45 minutes.
Your chiropractor may also suggestMassage Therapy or Exercise Therapy to assist in relaxing and rehabilitating injured or weakened tissues.
A consultation with our Naturopath orTCM Acupuncturist may be indicated depending on the complexity of your complaint.
Plan approximately 60 minutes for your first visit. Following an in-depth examination, your naturopath will perform a physical examination. Based on this information, a customized treatment plan will be presented and may include:
● Homeopathic preparations
● Dietary modifications and supplements
● Acupuncture
● Prolotherapy and Biopuncture
Subsequent visits are usually 20 to 30 minutes each. No special clothing is needed.
Your naturopath may also suggest a course of concurrent chiropractic, massage ortraditional Chinese acupuncture.
Massage sessions are available at 30, 45, 60 or 90 minutes. All our therapists are registered and experienced in using a variety of techniques and tissue depth. Your modesty will be respected at all times and you can disrobe to your comfort level.
Cranial Sacral Therapy is also offered through a couple of our therapists as well as Thai Yoga Massage and Emotional Freedom Technique.
It is quite common for chiropractic patients to receive a massage prior to or after their adjustments. (It helps things “hold” longer).
Plan approximately 75 minutes for your first visit. This includes a TCM assessment of your pulse and tongue followed by a 1-hour treatment. Chinese herbs are often combined with acupuncture treatments to balance your qi.
Subsequent visits are time based, usually 30 to 60 minutes in length. No special clothing is required.
When you book your initial consultation with the Dietitian you will be sent a 3-day Food Record to fill out before your first visit. At the appointment, you will discuss your personal health history, diet and lifestyle habits and goals for nutrition counselling. The 3-day food record will provide a detailed ‘snap shot’ of your eating that will be used to make personalized recommendations to improve your diet and help you reach your goals. Plan to spend 1 hour with the Dietitian during your first visit.
If you have been injured in an automobile accident in Alberta, you are entitled to accident benefits coverage regardless of whether you were at fault for the accident. The benefits you receive depend on the type of injury you have incurred.
If you have been involved in an accident:
Contact your insurance company and report your accident immediately.
See a primary health care practitioner (chiropractor, medical doctor, physical therapist) as soon as possible for an assessment of your injury and, if needed, treatment advice. You do not need a medical referral in order to seek chiropractic, acupuncture or massage therapy services.
File an injury accident report with the police.
Complete the Notice of Loss and Proof of Claim form (AB-1). This form must be completed and submitted within 10 days of the accident. Our office can supply you with this document on your first visit and assist you in the process of making your claim.
Your treating doctor will complete a Treatment Plan (AB-2) outlining the diagnosis and requesting the appropriate treatment for your injuries.
You have 90 days from the date of the accident to receive either 10 or 21 pre-approved treatments based on the doctor’s diagnosis.
The cost for the pre-approved visits will be billed directly to the insurance company so that you will not incur any cost for your initial treatment.
The scope of your treatment will depend on what is recommended by your primary health care practitioner on the AB-2. At Downtown Integrative Health it can include chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, massage therapy, active release technique and exercise rehabilitation.
What happens if I am still injured after 90 days or after using all the pre-authorized treatments?
After 90 days or once you have used all the pre-authorized treatments – whichever comes first – your primary health care practitioner will complete a Concluding Report (AB-4) outlining your progress and if necessary recommending further care for complete healing of your injuries. You now enter the post protocol phase of your treatment.
How are the post protocol treatments paid for?
For patients who have extended health benefits: Once outstide the protocols you will pay for your treatments and submit receipts to your personal extended benefits for reimbursement. If you exhaust your benefits before reaching your pre-accident state you may then submit your receipts to your auto insurance for reimbursement under the Section B portion of your policy. Treament limits under Section B are:
For patients who do not have extended health benefits: Once outside the protocols you will pay for your treatments and submit receipts directly to your auto insurance for reimbursement under the Section B portion of your policy. Treatment limits under Section B are:
If your injury is still not resolved at this point you may consider retaining the services of a lawyer to expedite your claim. Alberta’s Minor Injury Regulation was struck down via a court decision released in February 2008. As a result, accident victims will no longer be restricted to a cap of $4,000 regardless of the type of injury.
At Downtown Integrative Health Group our administrative staff can help you understand and navigate any difficulties you may have with your claim.
